Company strategy
In this section, you should add the company's strategy so that it is easily accessible for strategy-driven performance and competence management throughout the whole organization. The strategy can be added both as a text description and as an attachment, e.g. a strategy paper.
Strategic targets
Strategic targets are the strategy-driven long-term goals of the organization, defining the general direction, what the organization is trying to achieve, and how it intends to succeed in the marketplace or use its resources effectively. Strategic targets are connected to the organization's business processes and customer or service promises and require specific capabilities and competences to achieve them. Strategic targets are therefore closely linked to strategic competences: the key skills, knowledge and abilities necessary for the organization to achieve its strategic targets and create competitive advantage.
To add a new strategic target, click Add new target. Name the target and add a clear description. You can also link strategic competencies to the target as applicable.
Strategic competences
Strategic competences are the core skills, knowledge and abilities that an organization needs to achieve its strategic targets and succeed in a competitive market or in the efficient use of resources. Strategic competences should serve the strategic aims of the organization, taking into account current and future needs and the competitive environment. Clearly defined strategic competences help set individual and team-level development targets and paths that support strategy implementation and the development of the organization's competences to meet the requirements of the environment in which it operates and create competitive edge.
Tip: You can sometimes benefit from using generative AI to help get you started in defining your strategic competences, with prompts such as ‘If our company's strategic target is to grow our software business in the cloud, what strategic competencies could be involved?’
You can also ask MPS to help you define your strategic competences – we would be happy to facilitate your discussion on which competences are key to being able to successfully implement your strategy.
Develpment periods
The development period refers to a time period for which the organization defines shared key performance and development targets, allowing teams and individuals a solid basis for planning their own targets and development over the same period. A development period starts with development discussions, the form for which you can also create in the Development periods section.
- Click Add a new period and provide a name and time period.
- Create a concise set of questions you would like employees to reflect on in their development discussions.
- Link relevant strategic targets to the period.
Tip: Here you should focus only on the essential questions that can realistically be discussed during a single discussion.
