The Gimlet LMS enables the distribution of various learning content, such as:
- e-learning courses (courses made by MPS Prewise, Gimlet Composer courses, SCORM 1.2, xAPI)
- videos, animations, screen recordings
- audio recordings (Podcasts)
- electronic textbooks, publications, presentation materials (PDF, Word, PPT)
- links to external material sources (Intranet, www, YouTube, DreamBroker etc.)
The system supports a guided learning process. The content and learning paths are set up in the Gimlet LMS administration. The content is divided into learning paths, which each have their own target groups.
A learning path is the top level in the training hierarchy, which gathers all selected learning content and their target groups. Learning paths can be created so that the users can freely browse the contents, or the learner can be guided to complete the content in a specified order (see Defining the Completion Order of Learning Path Phases). At least one learner group, which contains the learning path learners, is created for each learning path. The courses attached to the learning path can also be recommended to learning groups.
The learning path has three levels (learning path > phase > learning content). The learning path is always constructed to have three levels on the Gimlet LMS administration side, but it is possible to determine in the learning portal settings which levels are visible to the users on the learning portal side. The level used in the learning portal is defined during the implementation project. The level can be changed later, if the usage level or structure of the learning content changes.
1st level: If there isn’t much learning content, it is sensible to display the content as a course list in the learning portal, which enables the user to view the entire learning catalogue at one glance.
2nd level: If there are dozens of learning contents, it is sensible to divide the content into phases to enable the users to get a better understanding of the different topics. A list of related courses and/or learning content is visible under each phase.
3rd level: If there is a significant amount of learning content and topics, it is advisable to display the content within the learning portal as learning paths, which means displaying the entire three-level structure to the users.
