In this section, you can view your team members' individual progress on performance targets and development paths, as well as the status of their development discussions. The possible phases of the development discussion are employee preparation, team leader preparation, development discussion and plan confirmed.
Performance targets
After opening an individual team member view (development summary), you can choose to review previously set targets and set new ones. Performance targets are used to set and monitor the achievement of operational targets. Operational targets should always be concrete and measurable targets related to the employee’s daily work and tasks. For example, a performance target could involve selling a certain number of products within a certain timeframe or completing a particular project. The progress of performance targets can be defined in absolute numbers (in Euros, or number of sales visits, for examples) or a percentage of the progress achieved towards that target. A performance target is usually linked to one or more team targets.
Development paths
A development path is a series of development activities and tasks that the team member and team leader want to follow in order to guide and verify the desired development. These tasks may include, for example, participation in formal training, completion of online courses, project implementation, coaching, peer learning, skills practice or other activities that support individual development. Development paths are often linked to team targets.
Personal development paths can be created from scratch or using an existing template. When using a template, you can utilize it as is or personalize it by modifying, adding or deleting some of the template tasks based on individual employee or role needs. To motivate team member development, be sure to create and customize any development paths in collaboration with the employee, so that the goals set for the path and the tasks forming it feel meaningful and relevant to them.
Employee preparation
At this phase of the development discussion, it is the team member's task to prepare for the discussion by filling in the development discussion preparation form. Once the team member has completed their preparation, the status of the development discussion is updated to the next phase, the team leader's preparation, where you can review the team member’s answers and prepare for the actual interview.
Team leader preparation
At this phase of the development discussion, you can review your team member's documented preparation and add your own comments and observations.
Development discussion
At this phase, you and your team member have the actual development discussion and can create targets and plans that are linked to the team targets set earlier. The discussion phase is an opportunity for an open dialogue between the team member and team leader that can pave way for a continued dialogue on development and performance that will not be restricted to development discussions but will become a constructive part of everyday work communications.
Use the development discussion form on Trilliant as a guide for the discussion and try to cover all the topics involved in it.
After the discussion, be sure to document all key topics, targets and decisions and, finally, conclude the process by confirming the plan.
